The Communion of Saints - October 2007

Before He died, Jesus prayed for us. In John 17:20-21, after praying for His disciples, Jesus prays for those who will "believe in me through their word". That's us....
And His prayer was, "that all may be one as you, Father are in me, and I in you; I pray that they may be one in us, that the world may believe that you sent me."
Well, no wonder Jesus prayed for our unity. We need His help! Jesus clearly saw that His followers would struggle with this.
Better minds and hearts than mine have struggled with the issue of divisions and disagreements between Christians and haven't solved them. So I don't pretend to propose a miracle solution.
But let us remember that Jesus wanted us to be united as a Christian faith. No matter where our convictions lead us or what denomination we say we "belong to", all Christians must kneel together at the foot of the cross. We must always remember that even though we may disagree with each other on interpretation of Scripture, that we are bound together in Christ our Savior's love and sacrifice.
And if Jesus loves us, then despite any potential disagreements or divisions, we are also called to love each other and to continue loving each other.
