The most important thing.

First in a series of meditations by Tessy Kessler

'What is life all about?'
'Why do I live?'
'What is really important in life?'
'What about life hereafter?'

To these questions many answers have been given throughout generations, cultures, and societies.

But I will listen to one voice. It is the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ, recorded in His Word forever.

He cut history in two, linking God and men, bridging the old and new Covenant and Testament. As the Son of God, He always had a remarkable answer for the questions fired at Him.

One day, when Jesus was asked what was the most important thing to get eternal life, He pointed to the essence of the Book, the Bible, which is preserved for us, to guide us  through our lives also.  'What is written there?' He asked, returning the question with a question. The one who had fired the question knew the writings, and as a summery of the ten commandments, he answered correctly: 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind.' And he added quickly, as to make it one sentence: 'and your neighbour as yourself.' (Luke 10: 25-28) Now, these are two positive commandments. They will never change, not on earth, and not even in heaven.

As long as there are human beings on earth these two commandments will remain the focal point of God, and the testing ground of the human heart. Even in heaven all will be centered around the same, and will be a source of eternal joy. Let's ask the Lord to help us understand this, do it, and live.
